A native of Wilson, NC, David earned his J.D. in 2009 from the University of North Carolina School of Law. While in law school, David provided corporate and transactional counsel to a North Carolina 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization as a member of the Community Development Law Clinic. He also served as Chair of the UNC Graduate School Honor Court and worked at the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization at Yale Law School.

In 2002, David graduated Phi Beta Kappa, earning a B.A. with Distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to law school, David spent four years in Washington, D.C. working in the House of Representatives and the White House.
